About Us
“THIS IS A CONFERENCE FOR THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE”
Events of September 11, 2001, and the terrorist threat facing our nation, has forced most of us to re-examine our procedures and practices, and to assess vulnerability points in our immediate surroundings.
Terrorism affects all of us. The purpose of this Conference is to prepare all individuals and organizations and to empower them against any natural or man-made disasters. It is up to each and every one of us to do the best we can, to prepare against any threat.
This Conference was originally developed at Carnegie Mellon University as a platform for exchange of ideas on how to develop technology for counter-terrorism. Later, it was formed into a national institution focusing primarily on the scientific aspects of Homeland Security technology, policy and procedures. Even though there are technical gatherings on Homeland Security around the nation, there was hardly a gathering that aims at all aspects of Homeland Security. Most other gatherings focus on a segment of Homeland Security, such as Bio-terrorism or cyber-security. However, Homeland Security issues encompass so many areas that most of us have not even thought about. The Founders and the Founding Committee decided that there needs to be a platform where all aspects of Homeland Security can be discussed so that scientists can learn from each other, and hopefully, discover products or develop new technology to counteract terrorism.
